Justice Center Release Destinations

A Jefferson County Justice Center departure is not one fixed event type. County staff may process community pretrial release, completion of a county sentence, or a court-directed release. They may instead deliver the person to Illinois Department of Corrections, another county, USMS, or another lawful custodian. A transfer ends the Justice Center episode but does not end custody.

The destination field resolves this difference. Ask for the jail’s recorded release authority and receiving agency, not just a date. If IDOC is named, continue with the IDOC profile. If USMS is named, use the federal court and USMS route. An affirmative ICE destination would support using the ICE locator, but a surname, nationality, or app disappearance does not.

Confirm Justice Center Releases

The Justice Center’s jail line at 618-244-8015 is the immediate county contact. A phone answer can direct the search, while a produced discharge record supplies durable proof. Identify one custody episode with the full name, approximate booking date, booking number, or Jefferson County court case number.

1. Check the official Sheriff inmate page and app for current displayed custody, recording when it was checked.
2. Call the jail and ask whether the person left for the community or another agency.
3. Search the Jefferson County court case for the release, dismissal, sentencing, or commitment order.
4. Use GovQuest to request date, time, authority, and destination.
5. Continue in the receiving agency’s system if the record describes a transfer.

Justice Center Discharge Records

The 2021 IDOC jail inspection gives a detailed local account of discharge controls. Staff establish positive identity and record the date, time, and authority for discharge, release, or transfer. They inspect and document injury, search the person, address medication, inventory and return property, and retain a signed itemized property receipt permanently. IDOC transfer documentation accompanies a person delivered to state custody.

The inspection does not publish a controlled vocabulary for every release reason. Request the jail’s actual recorded value. Medical, victim, juvenile, and security material may be withheld or redacted, so ask for separable public event fields rather than unrelated details.

Justice Center Records Contact

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office operates the facility and handles county-jail records. Public office hours were not posted in the reviewed contact material, so call before an in-person visit.

The GovQuest portal permits anonymous filing. An anonymous requester must preserve the request number and security key, and anonymity can make clarification harder. Jefferson County posts no local release-record fee schedule or retention term. Ask for an estimate before chargeable work and request electronic copies when suitable.

A narrow request should name the custody episode and separately seek the booking sheet, discharge event screen, booking photograph, and receiving-agency document. If a field is withheld, ask for the cited exemption and any nonexempt portions that can be separated.

Justice Center App Access

Jefferson County’s inmate access is app-first. The official web page directs users to download Jefferson County Sheriff IL rather than presenting a normal roster. The app landing page verifies the channel, but the reviewed sources do not document a released tab, 24-hour view, 72-hour view, photo field, update cadence, or retention policy.

Use the app for the limited question it can support: whether a person appears on the current screen at the time checked. Date any observation and record the app version and screen. Do not convert an absent name into a release time or release reason. No official recent-release feed was verified for Jefferson County, Illinois.

The Sheriff’s News and Updates may preserve selected agency items and photos. It is not an inmate archive and does not replace the discharge file. Pair any arrest item with the later court disposition.

Justice Center Transfer Mix

The 2021 inspection documents that Jefferson housed people for Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USMS, and other counties as needed. The 2018 snapshot also listed people held for Cook, Vanderburgh, and Perry Counties, along with security-transport-team holds. These dated findings show why physical location does not always identify the government that owns the case.

A person held for USMS may leave Jefferson County on a federal movement rather than a release. A BOP locator search is not enough for every federal pretrial person because USMS and the federal court manage that stage. Likewise, another county may receive the person and apply different public-access rules.

A 2009 ICE agreement supplies historical context only. No current Jefferson County ICE contract was verified. Use the ICE locator only after the jail identifies ICE as the receiver. This is why every Justice Center release request should include “destination or receiving agency.”

Justice Center History in Context

The Justice Center was constructed in 2004. Capacity figures differ by date and source. The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association describes 249 beds, while the 2021 IDOC inspection used a constructed capacity of 252, then divided into 208 male and 44 female beds. These figures should remain labeled rather than merged into one timeless number.

Population and staffing numbers are also snapshots, not current claims. The 2018 inspection counted 185 confined people with 27 full-time and five part-time staff. The 2021 inspection counted 162 people with 24 full-time and seven part-time jail-duty staff. They do not establish current population, staffing, annual releases, average stay, or turnover.

Those dated differences matter because release records are event-specific. Facility history can explain mixed custody, but only the booking and discharge identifiers establish what happened to one person.

Justice Center Court Authority

The Circuit Clerk owns the court record that authorized or explained a release. Search through ResearchIL or Jefferson County’s Judici access, preferably by case number. Read the actual order rather than relying on a daily docket label.

Court authorization and physical jail exit can occur at different times. The signed order is stronger for the legal basis. The Justice Center discharge field is stronger for the physical processing event. If those timestamps conflict, preserve both labels and ask the responsible record owner to explain.

Pretrial release

The person leaves jail while the case continues under court conditions.

Transfer

The person leaves this facility but remains confined by another custodian.

Final discharge

The correctional authority addressed by that record ends, which is distinct from physical jail release.
